Get ready for white sand and crystal clear water when you visit any of Panama’s Pearl Islands, including the most populated and most famous island, Contadora.
At just 32 miles from Panama City, you will think you are in another world and in a sense, you really are. Turquoise waters, vibrant reefs, and year round fantastic weather make Contadora a fantastic day trip to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Panama City, Panama.
If you are a beach lover, then there is no doubt that you will love Contadora! Don’t expect much by way of beachside amenities, unless you are posting up on Contadora’s most popular beach, Punta Galeon. This is the beach to go to if you want to be able to people watch and be close to one of several restaurants as well as a beachside bar.
For a bit more privacy, hop on a golf cart and drive west for the short 5 minute drive to Playa Ejecutiva which is perched right in front of some of the nicest homes for sale on Contadora. You’ll find plenty of shade and green grass for a picnic.
If you prefer to be one of only a few people on the beach, you can also check out Playa Cacique or as the locals call it, Hawaii beach. Anyone who has been to the Hawaiian islands can appreciate the similarities. This is a great beach to do some snorkeling but just keep a heads up as this is a fairly high traffic area for Panama’s yachting community.
Playa Larga is the longest and arguably the most scenic beach on Contadora. An added bonus is being able to check out the old Hotel Contadora which has fallen on hard times.
If you are going to be visiting any of Contadora’s beaches, make sure to pack something to drink along with plenty of sunscreen. And don’t forget your mask and snorkel!
